QUEBEC SELECTED IMMIGRATION

The Quebec government has established the Canada-Quebec Accord on Immigration with the central government of Canada. The Accord gives Quebec more independent rights to select immigrants for the Province of Quebec. The program parallels, in a great sense, to the federal immigration program. However, the selection criteria are different. For example, to come to Quebec as a skilled worker is different from the rules under the federal immigration program.

After the applicant has been selected by Quebec, he or she has to make a separate application to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) for permanent residence. A CIC officer will assess the application based on Canadian immigration law.
